Yet
You are the one who ripped me wide
Annihilating my insides
Carelessly
All the while
Unintentionally
You climbed inside
Planted your seed
And asked me to go tree-climbing
Monkey see
Monkey do
What a ride!
We divided a state
Each declaring
North
or
South
Never meeting in the middle
Well-- Once maybe
Three short cycles
Creating a world
And like the great Pompeii
Vesuvius will keep the pieces to the puzzle
Frozen in time
Unsolved
The riddle with rhyme
But no reason
One legend heading
East
The other remaining
West
Each fighting battles
Too small to divide a nation
But too large to meet in the middle
